Northwest Basketball Teams Ready For Season Kickoff

(Grand Island, NE) - The Northwest girls and boys basketball teams are looking forward to kicking off their 2023-2024 seasons. The Vikings will jumpstart things on Friday, December 1st traveling to Kearney Catholic to take on the Stars. Both games will air live on 103.1 FM & 2dayfm1031.com & krgi.com. Varsity girls is set for 6:00 pm with the boy's game to follow at approximately 7:45 pm. 

The Northwest girls are coming off a 10-15 season. Derek Lindsey gets set for his 2nd season as the head coach. The Vikings won their sub-district tournament at McCook 40-37 in overtime to advance to a district final where the season came to a close falling at Skutt Catholic 71-38. 

The Northwest boys last year finished with a record of 7-15. The Vikings will have a new head coach but a familiar face for 2023-24. Evan Swanson takes over as the new headman. For the past two seasons, he has been with the Northwest boys as an assistant coach under former head coach Chip Bahe who is now at St Paul as the head coach. Swanson before Northwest has had stops in Wyoming and Iowa coaching basketball.
