Northwest Basketball Teams Head To Lakeview


(Columbus, NE) - The Northwest Viking basketball teams are back on the road tonight (Friday, January 5th) traveling to Columbus Lakeview for their first games of the new year. The Northwest girls come in with a record of 6-5. The Vikings went 1-1 at the Doane Holiday Tournament just after Christmas. The Vikings lost to Skutt Catholic in the first round 64-30 and won vs Maryville, MO in day-to-two action 64-35. Northwest is led in scoring so far this season by Reagan McIntyre with 9.5 points per game, Haylee Brandt averages 6.7 points per game, and Emersyn Graves along with Jolie O’Hara each 5.5 points per outing. The Lakeview girls come into Friday night’s game with a record of 2-7. The Vikings played last night winning at DC West 32-29. The other two wins for the Lakeview girls come to Logan View Scribner Snyder and Twin River. 

The Northwest boys are looking for their third win of the season after going 0-2 at the Doane Holiday Tournament. The Vikings lost to Skutt Catholic 69-42 and fell to Maryville, MO on day two of the tournament 48-49. Northwest will look to snap the current two-game skid after winning their second game of the season just before Christmas on December 22nd at Broken Bow 55-35. Northwest is led so far this season by junior Brandon Bykerk averaging 10.3 points per game. Junior Sam Dinkelman averages 8.2 points per contest. Freshman Dawson Urbanski chips in 6.4 points per game. Columbus Lakeview enters tonight’s game with a record of 4-6 after losing last night at Douglas County West 66-22. The Falcons are 9-1 on the season. Lakeview is also on a two-game skid coming into tonight. The four wins on the season for the Vikings come to Boone Central, Logan View Scribner Snyder, Clarkson Leigh, and Twin River.
