Karmann photos on display at Good Samaritan

KEARNEY— CHI Health Good Samaritan welcomes Nebraska photographer Nia Karmann to its Walkway Gallery. Her faith-inspired nature photos will be on display through July 2024.

“Capturing nature’s beauty allows me to express my freedom while escaping the box that Spina Bifida creates. Shooting from a wheelchair gives my work a unique perspective and I do whatever it takes to capture the right angle,” says Karmann.

Karmann is an award-winning photographer profiled in 2013 by Nebraska Public Media ‘Nebraska Stories.’

For more information or to purchase a piece, visit www.nyestreetstudio.com or contact the photographer at nyestreetstudio@gmail.com

The gallery at Good Samaritan has provided a respite to those walking the hospital’s halls since 2008.

Artist Statement–written by Nia Karmann
Life holds a beauty that I enjoy and my passion in life is capturing that wondrous beauty that God has given us through photography. It’s exciting seeing the world through the eye of the camera.

I am an aspiring, award winning photographer who has participated in numerous photography contests and art shows perfecting my art for over 15 years. I was introduced to photography through 4-H and had excellent teachers.

My passion is sharing my view of the amazing beauty and wonder God has given me. I particularly love capturing wildlife at rest in their natural habitat.

Views from a wheelchair are always unique and many times what I see in a crowd is obstructed. But, when the crowd clears, I use my upbeat, creative attitude to capture the beautiful world around us. Unusual angles, shapes, and scenes visible from my wheelchair make my photography individual.

“A picture is worth a thousand words”. But a picture from “down under” is truly my offering to you. I share a new view of things short, tall and ever present in the everyday world. Come and enjoy that perspective with me.

More about the CHI Health Good Samaritan Walkway Gallery
The Walkway Gallery is a dedicated corridor connecting the main hospital to the West Tower at Good Samaritan. This gallery gives regional artists more than 200 feet of display space with lighting and security systems to professionally highlight their artistic works. It was developed as part of Good Samaritan's Planetree philosophy of patient-centered healing. The Art Steering Committee follows a competitive selection process using documented research criteria for art that supports healing in a hospital environment to choose the artists featured in the gallery. A new artist will display his or her works every four months. To submit art for consideration, please contact the Foundation at (308) 865-2700.
