In A Battle Of The Vikings Northwest Comes Out On Top

(Columbus, NE) - The Northwest basketball teams each picked up wins on Friday night at Columbus Lakeview. Both games were nip and tuck pretty much the entire way. In the girl's contest, it was a slow start for Northwest who trailed 7-0 to start but then outscored Lakeview 6-0 in the second quarter to tie the game at halftime 13-13. The Vikings would have a  27-24 lead after three quarters and outscore Lakeview 8-5 in the fourth quarter to hang on and win the game 35-29. Lakeview with the loss is 3-8 and Northwest is now 7-5. The Northwest girls will be back in action on Tuesday, January 9th hosting Hastings St. Cecilia. 

In the boy's game, Northwest in the first half would trail but the game would always be within reaching distance. The Vikings trailed by three at the end of the first quarter down 15-12. Lakeview would then lead 23-18 at halftime. Lakeview would drain a three for the opening points of the third quarter and then Northwest would go on a 12-0 run highlighted by several buckets to start the run with offense-slashing layups followed by three straight turnovers by Lakeview that would then lead to quick points for the black and gold. The run would give Northwest a lead at the end of the third quarter 34-32. Northwest would outscore Lakeview 15-13 in the fourth quarter to close out the game. Lakeview drops to 4-7 on the season while Northwest is 3-7. Northwest will be back in action on Saturday, January 6th at York. Then Tuesday, January 9th hosting St. Cecilia. 

The next radio coverage on 103.1 FM will be Friday, January 12th as Adams Central visits Northwest.
