GIPS Launches Substitute Campaign
Like many districts around the state and country, Grand Island Public Schools are facing staffing challenges, especially in the area of substitutes.
In response to these challenges, the school district is launching a substitute recruitment campaign and bonus structure. GIPS will offer a one-time bonus to current substitutes to say thank you, and will also provide a bonus opportunity to new GIPS substitutes.
“Our amazing staff at GIPS have been working hard to ensure our students continue growing, learning and thriving in the middle of this pandemic,” GIPS Superintendent Dr. Tawana Grover said.
Like many school districts, GIPS staff members are covering more classes and filling in for other staff due to increased absenteeism and the compounding complexities presented by COVID-19.
“We have already seen a renewed interest in substitute service from our local community. We hope our focus will continue to attract more substitutes to the district to ensure we meet the needs of our students and staff alike,” GIPS Chief of Human Capital Management Kristen Irey said.
Dr. Grover and Irey said the district has been very fortunate to have many great substitutes who have been helpful in filling positions, but more are needed. GIPS works with substitutes to establish a plan that offers flexibility for their desired schedule.
“Our substitutes’ varied experiences provide the needed support in roles that match their interest and expertise,” Dr. Grover said. “We value our substitutes and consider them part of the GIPS team.”
