GIPD arrest man driving a toy scooter for drug possession
(Grand Island, NE) - On Thursday night at approximately 11:15 pm Grand Island Police officers were observing the area of W 14th St & N Pine St in reference to possible drug activity. A male was observed leaving the residence of 103 14th St W, southbound on Pine St N on a motorized Toy Scooter. The vehicle also did not have a working headlight. Officers attempted to stop the male at W 10th St & N Wheeler Ave using overhead patrol light. The male was given verbal commands to stop. The male told officers he was not going to stop and continued to drive away from officers. The male was eventually stopped and identified as Christopher Perez. While attempting to place him under arrest, he pulled away from officers and fought the officer’s attempts. During a search of Perez, 20.7 grams of a suspected controlled substance (methamphetamine), plastic baggies consistent with individual packaging for drug distribution, a portable electronic scale, drug paraphernalia, and marijuana were located. He was unable to provide a drug tax stamp. He was arrested for Possession of Controlled substances W/Intent to Distribute, Drug Dealer Tax, Resisting Arrest 1st, Obstruction, Possession Drug Paraphernalia, and Possession Marijuana (THC). He was referred for Unlawful Use of a Toy Vehicle.
