Crusaders & Patriots Split On The Hardwood Saturday Night

(Grand Island, NE) - Two gritty, tough, hard-fought basketball games took place on Saturday night from Ruby Avenue in Grand Island. The GICC girls would win their 13th game of the year with a 50-39 victory. A key 7-0 run with 4:28 left in the fourth quarter for the Crusader girls would be the big difference in the contest. Most of the game would be nip and tuck between the two Class C1 Central Nebraska foes. The GICC starters would play on the floor during the entire game except for 6.5 seconds and only four Crusaders scored in the game. Adams Central with the loss drops to 11-3 with Central Conference play next week. GICC girls are now 13-1 on the season and will be back in action next Tuesday, January 23rd hosting a game in the Centennial Conference tournament at 6:00 pm. The opponent will be the winner of Lincoln Lutheran at Aquinas which will be played on Monday, January 22nd.

Game two of the night would feature another see-saw affair with the game in the end going into overtime with the Adams Central boys prevailing 54-44 over GICC. It was the first game in almost 15 days for GICC after their last game was a loss on January 6th at Doniphan Trumbull, 57-22.  The Crusaders by far played one of their best contests of the season. GICC would lead at halftime 25-24 and also cling to a one-point lead at the end of three quarters 35-34. The Crusaders would have the ball with 11 seconds left in regulation as the game was tied at 40 all, but a three-pointer was missed by Thomas Liban. Adams Central would get 14 points in the overtime period to secure the win. The Adams Central boys are now 11-4 on the season and will be back in action hosting Northwest in the Central Conference tournament on Tuesday, January 23rd at 7:00 pm. The Crusader boys are 4-9 with the loss and will return to the hardwood at Kearney Catholic in the first game of the Centennial Conference tournament on Monday, January 22nd at 6:00 pm.
