Badura is Nebraska Women's Amateur Golfer of the Year

OMAHA (November 9, 2021) - The Nebraska Golf Association is proud to announce the selection of Aurora’s Danica Badura as the 2021 Nebraska Women’s Amateur Golfer of the Year.

Badura, a sophomore on the University of South Dakota women’s golf team, won the Nebraska Women’s Amateur again and maintained her spot at the top of the women’s game in Nebraska. It’s the third straight year she’s won this award, formerly the NWAGA Player of the Year award, and with her two Nebraska Girls’ Golfer of the Year awards, it’s her fifth overall recognition.

Badura put together a dominant performance on a difficult golf course to win the 47th Nebraska Women’s Amateur Championship. The Club at Indian Creek in Elkhorn proved to be a tough test, and Badura separated herself from the field. She opened with a 69 (-3), one of just two rounds under par during the first round. Papillion’s Sydney Taake also broke par, shooting a 70 (-2), but no one else in the field was within eight strokes of Badura. She followed with a 77 (+5) in the second round to extend her lead to four strokes, before cruising in with a final round 75 (+3), the second-lowest round of the day. Badura’s 221 (+5) total was eight strokes better than the trio of players tied for second. She’s the eighth player to win back-to-back Nebraska Women’s Amateur titles.

In June at Awarii Dunes Golf Club in Axtell, Badura competed in the 97th Nebraska Women’s Match Play Championship. She shot a 74 (+2) in Stroke Play Qualifying and earned the No. 5 seed. Badura held the lead throughout most of her Round of 16 match against Husker golfer Nicole Hansen, but Hansen birdied the 17th hole to tie the match and eventually forced extra holes. Hansen then birdied the par-5 first hole to win in 19 holes over Badura.

In addition to her performances at the NGA’s championships, Badura tied for third at the 2021 Prairie Invitational, a regional tournament for women, conducted in Kansas City.

Badura will be honored at the Nebraska Golf Association's annual awards banquet on Friday, December 3 at The Field Club of Omaha. In addition, the NGA will recognize its Amateur Golfer of the Year, Girls’ Amateur Golfer of the Year, Junior Amateur Golfer of the Year, and Senior Amateur Golfer of the Year.
